In this thesis we consider the second order elasticity problems in an isotropic compressible and incompressible elastic half-space which is acted upon by the non-uniformly distributed loads. Non-uniform normal and shear loading are considered separately. In both cases we obtain the closed form solutions. The basic equations governing the finite elastic deformation are given in chapter I. Chapter II is concerned with the normal load. We employ the Papkovitch-Nueber displacement solution to both linear and second order problems. Several linear and a second order illustrations are presented. Solutions to the incompressible material are also considered. Chapter III discusses the shear load. The displacement vector is chosen to be the Garlerkin's solution plus an additional term. We are able to solve some non-homogeneous fourth-order partial differential equations.
