Abstract

In this commentary on the paper “Connectives and Straw Men: Experimental Approach on French and English“ by Jennifer Schumann and Sandrine Zufferey, I underline the relevance of this paper for the study of argumentative strategies. In particular, I show how it suggests that critics may find themselves in a strategic maneuvering dilemma when they have to choose how to linguistically present the reasoning of their intelocutor.
