Doctors without Borders / Médecins sans Frontières: An Examination Through the Lens of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals

Ava Mammarella, University of Windsor

Proposal

The objective of this presentation was to investigate the contributions of Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as related to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Furthermore, it serves to identify ways students attending the University of Windsor can support MSF and their work toward achieving the SDGs. The SDGs are 17 recommendations by the United Nations to improve the present and future quality of life for individuals worldwide. To do so, the SDGs address global inequalities and encourage environmentally sustainable practices. MSF is a non-profit humanitarian organization that provides care to vulnerable populations in crisis around the globe. Through their continuous action, MSF effectively addresses the following SDGs: #2 Zero Hunger, #3 Good Health and Well-Being and #13 Climate Change. Students of the University of Windsor can contribute to the organization, and thereby the SDGs, by supporting Friends of MSF and donating money. Those who wish to pursue work directly with MSF can do so post-graduation.
