Shaping Outstanding Scholars through Student Leadership: A Personal Journey and Framework for Student Leaders

Jeannette Vanier, University of Windsor

Proposal

This presentation will showcase how I’ve built the Outstanding Scholars (OS) program through student leadership over the past two years and will detail my personal journey as President of the Outstanding Scholars Student Council (OSSC) with influence from my role as Team Lead of the Lancer Leadership Ambassadors. I will share challenges, graduating thoughts, and my hope for the program’s future. I will outline how I’ve motivated and inspired my council and the OS community in cognitive, social, curricular and community capacities through my implementation of various leadership styles and frameworks. I will specifically touch on how the OS program contributes to the development of connected, and experienced students through mentoring and fostering high achieving, curious, adaptive, undergraduate research leaders who are active contributors to opensource knowledge spaces. Just as I have woven leadership into Outstanding Scholars, I will weave a framework for curating your brand and inspiring your team as a student leader into my personal story. Through my own reflection and experiences, I will stimulate reflection for my audience through questions, audience prompts and further resources and offer what I want present and future Outstanding Scholars and student leaders to know.
