Proposal

This presentation delves into the ethical foundations that underpin values-based leadership, particularly in the context of leadership on the commons. The ethical framework influencing values-based leadership encompasses principles such as integrity, empathy, accountability, and inclusivity. Values-based leadership is characterized by a strong alignment between personal and organizational values, guiding decision-making and actions towards the common good. The poster showcases the history of ethical decision-making and how certain ethical values have been implemented at different periods. The connection to leadership arises when ethical values are integrated into conscious conversations. These conversations are a form of dialogue where participants discuss and resolve issues of importance. They are highly infused with ethical-decision making processes created by values-based leadership. In the context of leadership on the commons, where resources are shared, and collective action is crucial, values-based leadership becomes even more pertinent. It fosters trust, collaboration, and sustainability, ensuring that decisions prioritize the well-being of all. This is where UN Sustainable Development Goal 10, reduced inequalities, is called upon. This idea of ethical decision making paired with collaboration specifically focuses on Target 10.2, as conscious conversations are a way to ensure everyone in the commons feels heard, included, and empowered. Leaders who have exemplified these values within their organizations include Tim Cook, John Wooden, Martina Mejean, and other notable names. Further investigation of these ideas revealed the importance of the theories of ethics in aiding leaders to encourage and establish responsibilities and ethical behaviour within the commons, shaping how people interact with each other.
