Partical Zoo

Brent Lee, University of Windsor

Abstract

Particle Zoo is an interactive piece for one percussionist and two laptop performers. The work explores ideas of scale and the perception of time sonically and visually. Both laptops use MaxMSP/Jitter to process live sound and video, to map gestures from the sonic into the visual realm, and to mix a variety of sounds and images relating to the central concept. Much of the visual material is derived from electron microscope images of instruments used in the performance. This video features a series of brief excerpts from the piece. (2010)
