Abstract
This final chapter is a summary of the contributions to The Dynamics and Principles of the Critical Zone, as well as a look through the binoculars to the future. We take this opportunity to go beyond the view provided by our binoculars and venture to look into our crystal ball to suggest a foundation for future directions and themes for Critical Zone research. We conclude with the argument that future Critical Zone research will need to include social scientists to understand the circumstances and consequences of human behavior. © 2015 Elsevier B.V.
