Abstract
This thesis deals with the determination of modulus of subgrade reaction for both sandy and clayey soils surrounding laterally loaded short piles. The initial value of modulus of subgrade reaction determined is based on Terzaghi, Bowles' and Vesic's method. The difference in lateral displacement of models from laboratory tests and that from numerical analysis are associated with inaccurately determined values of modulus of subgrade reaction. The evaluation of modulus of subgrade reaction, which presents the same value of horizontal displacement at the top of pile determined in laboratory experiment and obtained from numerical investigation, is performed in the scope of sensitivity analysis.Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
