Bio Statement
Dr. Colin Howell is Professor Emeritus in History and Academic Director of the Centre for the Study of Sport and Health at Saint Mary`s University in Halifax. Dr. Howell has published widely in the field of sport and health studies, including Blood, Sweat and Cheers: Sport and the Making of Modern Canada (2001) and Northern Sandlots (1995). In 2001 he initiated the Putting it on Ice series of hockey conferences, now recognized as having created a renaissance in hockey scholarship internationally. He has received numerous awards including the Heritage award of the Society of North American Hockey Researchers for excellence in sports writing. He was inducted into the Black Hockey and Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
