Proposal
In the fall semester of 2021, performing arts students were challenged in collaborating on creative projects virtually, as the university implemented protective measures to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a vocal student enrolled in the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts, I explored innovative methods of creating a musical performance that could unite musicians in this period of quarantine. I composed a piece called ‘Muddy Water’ about maintaining long and enduring friendship through distance and adversity. I coordinated an ensemble of University of Windsor students, faculty, and alumni to record their assigned portions of the song remotely that I edited into one seamless video performance. Through the creation of this video, I enhanced my knowledge of various music recording software, such as GarageBand and Logic, and video editing software, iMovie and Wondershare. I presented the piece at a virtual School of Creative Arts recital in November 2020 and received positive feedback from various audience members, including students and faculty. Many of my peers expressed their interest in creating their own collaborative projects in this style after attending the recital.
