Peace, justice, and strong institutions are the foundation of a stable and prosperous society. They support a sense of safety and trust in the government and its institution while making sure that everyone is treated fairly and has access to equal opportunities. An effective legal system that upholds justice and works to prevent crime encourages economic development and investment. Society needs to make changes in order to maintain stability and peace because, without change, society is likely to become stagnant, inequitable, and prone to conflict. The University of Windsor aims to promote SDG 16 through research and extracurriculars around campus. For example, targets 16.3, promoting the rule of law and ensuring equal access to justice; 16.6, developing effective, accountable and transparent institutions; and 16.B, promoting and enforcing non-discriminatory laws and policies are addressed through Brandon Chase’s master thesis Peace Bonds as Counter-Law. Stable and open institutions attract investment and generate employment. For the protection of human rights and the advancement of social cohesion, a peaceful society with an equitable and functional judicial system is necessary. In other words, creating a society that is free, equitable, and wealthy for all requires peace, justice, and strong institutions. Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, are used to accomplish objectives all around the world. The sixteenth SDG will be covered in this talk. As it focuses on peace, justice, and robust institutions, SDG 16 encourages creating a cooperative and peaceful society. By embracing change and making necessary adjustments, societies can foster stability and peace, reducing the risk of conflict and creating a more harmonious world for all.
